A modern Baybayin branding project that celebrates Filipino heritage while giving it a clean and contemporary look. The idea is to make the script relevant today—stylish, simple, and easy to connect with.

Understanding the Need

The project aimed to create a brand identity that connects tradition with modern design. Baybayin is rich in history, but it needed a visual style that feels fresh and usable for today’s audience without losing its cultural roots.

Creative Direction

The branding direction focused on keeping things simple yet meaningful. Every element was designed to respect Baybayin while still being clear and stylish. The goal was to balance cultural depth with accessibility so the identity feels both authentic and approachable.

The Challenge

Baybayin is beautiful but naturally complex. Using too much detail could make the visuals hard to read or apply across different materials. The challenge was to keep the essence of the script while making sure the designs worked well in small icons, large signs, digital screens, and merchandise.

The Solution

A brand system was developed to showcase Baybayin in a modern, practical way:

  • Logo & Mark – Simplified Baybayin-inspired forms with clean lines and negative space, making the script feel modern.

  • Typography – A mix of legible typefaces with Baybayin touches to keep things readable but still tied to tradition.

  • Visual Elements – Patterns, strokes, and motifs inspired by Baybayin curves and shapes, used as accents across designs.

  • Color Palette – Warm, grounded colors paired with modern contrasts to create a flexible and versatile identity.

Design Process

Explorations were made on how Baybayin can be stylized into marks and paired with typography. Variations were tested across mockups—from print to digital—to check readability and consistency. Decorative patterns and motifs were also applied on applications like signage, packaging, and merchandise.

The Results

The final identity presents Sari-Saring Baybayin as:

  • Heritage-Rich and Modern — rooted in tradition but fresh in look.

  • Accessible and Stylish — clear and relatable to a wider audience.

  • Flexible and Distinct — adaptable across print, digital, and merchandise.

The outcome turns Baybayin into more than just an old script—it becomes a modern cultural statement that bridges the past and present.
